Ladies often dream of the perfect dress with a specific fabric or design, length or style. As stitchery-wizards aren't as common as they once were, Mufreesboro native Kerri Zelenik has found a way to bridge the gap between concept and creation.
She launched KerriedAwayCouture.com that allows fashion-savvy women to design a dress or skirt in three simple steps, wherein designers choose a style, a fabric and details.
Zelenik wrote the business plan as part of a college course five years ago as a way to incorporate her love of fashion with her desire to own a business.
"I thought it'd be great if I could order a custom outfit that expressed my personality and my style, but was also affordable," she explained.
Interested individuals can design their outfits online or host a free in-home party, during which Zelenik brings all of her fabrics and samples. Orders can also be placed through personal meetings with Zelenik.
While Kerried Away Couture currently only offers dresses and skirts as options, Zelenik said she hopes to incorporate a cape or jacket into the mix.
"I hope to have something that might pair well with a dress to create an entire outfit for one to wear," she said.
In an effort to keep her products unique, Zelenik offers limited supply of her patterned fabrics "because the goal of this is to not have everybody walking around in the same thing."
She added that her designs are great options for bridesmaid dresses because they allow each woman to choose her own style while maintaining the color scheme. Additionally, one alteration is available free of charge with each purchase.
Kerried Away Couture is having a trunk show from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. February 20, 2010 at The Factory at Franklin. For additional information, contact Kerried Away Couture.
